He is an overprotective dog who needs a very strong leader and more obedience/socialization training. Bouncer Lou is a very high energy dog who needs to be given ways every day to channel his smart mind into good behavior. While Bouncer Lou gets along with most adults after proper introductions, his initial response to strangers can be somewhat reactive (i.e., jumping up, nipping, charging). With people he is familiar with, he is very lovable and craves human interaction. However, because of his energy and size, he can't be placed in a home with small children. He does well with older children on a limited basis. Since he likes to chase cats, he probably shouldn't be placed in a home with them. Bouncer Lou does well at the dog park and likes other dogs. Since he likes to chase, wrestle and play rough, other dogs don't always want to play with him. He would probably do best as the only dog in his new home. His favorite things are going to the dog park where he can run/play off-leash and going for walks. He also loves car rides. He knows some basic commands such as Sit, Stay, Wait, Come and readily responds to these commands when indoors. When he is outdoors, it can be hard to keep his attention focused on his commands. Since he will pull on the leash when he finds an interesting smell or when he sees another dog, Bouncer Lou needs additional work on his leash manners. He is crate trained and will voluntarily go into his crate if the door is left open. Bouncer Lou is typically not crated and is left alone during an 8 hours work day. He'd love to find a new active home soon. Bouncer Lou is a fantastic running partner and can run for miles a day. His ideal home would be in a single family home with a large yard where he can run and play off-leash each day. Because of his initial reactions to strangers, apartment/condo living isn't a good environment for him.
